Immigrants to North America gave us the United States Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, in part, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.
“This has been called the greatest sentence in the English language” and is the basis for what we refer to today as… the American Dream. A belief that those who work hard are rewarded with a better life for themselves and their families.
Some work to amass greater wealth while those without jobs or an income feel the American Dream is just another pipe dream. The middle class work to attain greater economic equality and prosperity in their pursuit of happiness while others find happiness in living a simple down to earth fulfilling life.
Today it takes more than just hard work… it also takes a little luck.
Americans are generally better off now than at any time in the past and even though some find the dream elusive, the economy is improving, people are going back to work, the idea is sound and people are free to pursue the opportunity, that through hard work and a little luck, they can achieve a better life, and today they are doing that.
