THE TEA PARTY

The Tea Party is a loosely organized American political group of Christians and far right wing conservatives determined to reduce the national debt and budget deficit, cut government spending and lower taxes.  These ideologues’ are on a mission to replace old established Republican Politicians that are not conservative enough and who do not support the Tea Party agenda.

They’ve had great success in electing members to both chambers of Congress and are currently in complete control of the House where Speaker, John Boehner, under pressure from Tea Party leader, Senator Ted Cruz, was successful in shutting down the Government and nearly caused an economic disaster by allowing the Country to default on our National debt.

Substantial numbers of Tea Party members receive Social Security, Medicare and help with living and education expenses while simultaneously campaigning against the very entitlement programs that provides them with the necessities of life.  The Tea Party has a talent for convincing people to vote against their own best interest and a penchant for misinforming others.

However public opinion of Ted Cruz and the Tea Party has drastically changed since they shut down the Government in an attempt to repeal the “Affordable Care Act” (ACA), a rule of law passed by both branches of Congress, signed by President and approved by the Supreme Court, and threatened to severely damage the economy if they didn’t get their way.

They either do not understand how Government works or they don’t care if it doesn’t work at all.

We are used to such hypocrisy in the UK as well via our Conservative Party. It’s also amazing to me that, these people, who represent a minority, can somehow sell themselves as representing the majority. I enjoy your comments on the US, please keep them coming.

Just how big is this party? What I mean is, would they win elections to a state? Are they in power in any of the states?

An excellent question. The Tea Party is actually a relative large extremist part of the American Republican Party that is dissatisfied with the old established Republican leadership. They have had some success in electing Republican candidates that share their extreme values but expectations are that they will have less influence as time goes by.

I read up on this Republican sub-group a bit after reading your post and what they stand for. I hope their influence, whatever it is now, diminishes.
